Hello friends!!

I trust that everyone is enjoying such a wonderful summer! I did my best to not complain about any hot days (remembering my promise from this last winter) and have enjoyed spending some time out and about. I did manage to can up a few green beans and still hoping for a day or two to can some tomatoes for Dave’s “special spaghetti sauce”. I always look forward to the seasons changing – and autumn always means lots of new fabrics and classes here at the shop as well as planning for future shop events. Soooo—–

I would like to give everyone a little “inside info” about our WV Mountain Quilt Quest Shophop For 11 years now, we have held this event in June; however, due to the fact that schools are dismissing later in the year – most of them are saying mid-June – we have voted to change the dates for the 2015 WV Mountain Quilt Quest Shophop to JULY 22-25, 2015. We received a lot of feedback this year from our teachers, mothers and grandmothers that could not attend because school was not dismissed yet – so we held a meeting and discussed the possibilities of making our shop hop more accessible to not only our teachers but to all our customers and hope this change will give everyone a chance to participate and visit all the wonderful quilt shops in our state!!

The Mystery Harvest Shophop is also right around the corner – and will be focusing on an exclusive “Covered Bridge” fabric designed by Beth Dix. I saw the paper prints on the design and must say they are outstanding!! Mark your calendars for October 1-4, 2014 from 9:00am until 7:00pm and join us in the Tri-state’s Mystery Harvest Shophop!!

Open House will be Saturday, August 16th – 9:00am – 4:00pm – Our sale will be $1.00 per yard off fabric, fat quarters $2.00 each, jellyrolls and layer cakes $5.00 off, and patterns, books, and notions will be 20% off. Hope everyone can come and check out all the new fabrics in the shop!!

Cookie Ranson, Pat Habenschauss, Linda Osborne, Linda Boggess, Clara Poe, Jody Postalwait, Dee Begley and myself got together this summer to plan a few new projects for you this fall. Each of us has become more excited as the time gets closer to Open House and the beginning of our class sessions. We will be limiting these classes to eight students– unless otherwise noted – in an attempt to be better able to instruct on a more one-on-one level. If the classes fill – then we will take a waiting list and try to schedule another class at a later date.

Here’s what we came up with –

What is a “Simple Whatnots Club?” It’s a collection of miniature quilts featuring Kim Diehl’s latest collection Vintage Farmhouse. The quilts are traditional patchwork in an array of colors and a simple setting, sometimes with a dollop of applique thrown in to create that wonderful traditional feel. Each month will be a different project and the kits will include everything you need to complete your project. The great part of the club is that its “simple” enough to get completed without creating another UFO in our sewing rooms and hanging out with our quilting peeps at the same time!!

Cookie Ranson will be leading our new Simple Whatnots Club starting in September. We will meet on September 9th from 1:00 – 3:00pm and have our first club meeting which will consist of a lecture, picking up your pattern and kit and cutting instructions so you will be prepared for our first “simple whatnot class.” The first sewing class will be held on Tuesday, September 16 from 1:00-3:00pm. You can pick up your next month’s pattern, kit and cutting instructions at that meeting. We will meet on the second Tuesday of each month thereafter – October 14, November 11th at 1:00pm – 3:00pm.

Cost is $35.00 per month for club members – includes kit, pattern and instructor fee.

Playful Spirit – A spectacular way to showcase all those Kaffe Fassett fabrics that are new to the shop or choose scrappy, 30’s, Kansas Troubles – anything goes in this playful log cabin pattern. I will be teaching this class on Saturday, September 13th and October 11th from 10:00am – 3:00pm. I will teach a second class on Wednesday, September 17th and October 15th – 10:00am – 3:00pm. Class fee: $25.00 – Book –

Spinwheels - A great beginner’s paper pieced project – Jellyroll friendly – I will be teaching this class on Thursday, October 16th – 10:00am – 3:00pm – Pattern required. Class fee $10.00. I will also teach this class on Saturday, November 8th – 10:00am – 3:00pm

Disappearing Hourglass – Clara Poe is going to be leading this technique on Thursday, September 18th, – 10:00am – 3:00pm – Layer cakes turns into such a beautiful block!! Class fee: $10.00

Dresden Coin – Another layer cake friendly project makes this quilt a breeze to put together. Perfect for that Halloween quilt, Christmas or just scrappy. Endless possibilities!!!! This class will be on Saturday, September 20th from 10:00am – 3:00pm – Class fee $25.00 – Ruler required.

Mystery Quilt hmmmm

Idea

Lucky Stars – This is a great stash buster – says scrappy all over it!! This would be a great one to use fat quarters – also great for beginners to intermediate quilters. Dee Begley will be teaching this class on Saturday, September 27th –10:00am – 3:00pm – Class fee $25.00 – Pattern required.

Mystery, Mystery, Mystery!!! Pat Habenschauss is back by popular demand!! Everyone loves her mystery quilt choices. Pat will have a few “clues” as to what types of fabrics you need for this 4-session bed size quilt – Class will be on Wednesdays – September 10th, September 24th, October 8th and October 22nd – Leaving plenty of time in between sessions for homework!!

Class begins at 10:00am – 3:00pm – Class fee is $60.00 instructor fee and $8.00 for pattern – (to be given at end of the project – lol) Confident beginner to intermediate

Through the Winter Woods – Jody Postalwait will teach this beautiful winter panel quilt – uses jellyrolls, fat quarters or yardage. Jody’s sample is made with Holly Taylor’s fabric from Moda – sets the mood for those chilly nights that are fast approaching. This one will be finished before the nights get to chilly – but just in time to snuggle for the holidays. Class will be Saturday, October 18th – 10:00am – 3:00pm – Instructor fee $25.00 Book required

Mystery – could it be a Bonnie Hunter mystery class??

Again – you asked Dee Begley to lead another mystery class and we talked her into it – lol

This class will be geared toward confident beginner to intermediate students and will be on Saturday – October 25th and November 22nd – 10:00am – 3:00pm – If you have never taken a class from Dee – this one is for you – lots of “clues” but she will have you guessing the whole time – I’m confident you will love the outcome of this project!! Instructor fee: $40.00

Log Cabin Hexed – Linda Boggess will lead you through this fun quilt – great for fat quarters or stash busters – Class will be on Thursday, October 23rd – 10:00 am – 3:00pm – Instructor fee: $10.00.

Is It Done Yet?? – Now that’s a question I ask myself everyday – lol – Jody Postalwait said this is another one of our layer cake friendly classes but works well with fat quarters or yardage. Sure does look like stained glass when done in batiks!! Beginner to intermediate levels – Class

will be on Saturday, November 15th from 10:00am – 3:00pm – Instructor fee – $25.00 – Pattern required.

Front Porch Tablerunner – Cookie Ranson will be teaching this classy tablerunner – Mostly pieced but she has just a touch of raw edge applique. Class will be on Tuesday, Oct. 28th and November 4th – 1:00pm – 3:00pm – Instructor fee: $20.00 – Pattern required

Tumbler Made Simple – Linda Osborne will show Creative Grids ruler technique on jellyrolls or our “strip-it” fabrics – Super simple but super gorgeous – Looks like you’ve worked for months coordinating all those fabrics – but Linda will show you her secret!! Class will be on Thursday, November 6th – 10:00am – 3:00pm – Instructor fee: $10.00

Well that’s about it for classes this fall (unless someone else would like to share!!)

Happy quilting everyone!!

God Bless

Phyllis

Open House – February 1, 2014

Winter has definitely visited us this year – cold, snow, cold, cold, cold, cold, – but on the positive side – there will be less pesky mosquitoes when we’re hot, sweaty and whining!!  It’s been a little difficult getting to the shop a couple days this year and even harder to plan our annual winter open house.  But – in hopeful anticipation of warmer days – we have scheduled Open House for this Saturday, February 1st from 9:00am – 3:00pm.  Our sale will constitute $1.00 per yard off all fabrics; 20% off all notions, books and patterns; jellyrolls and layercakes will be $30.00; Fat quarters $2.00.

A few of the new collections in the shop this year includes – 80 new bolts of 1930’s reproduction fabrics – perfect for those periwinkle stars we will be making on our Thursday Sit n’ Sew.

The newest Jan Patek fabric line, absolutely sings about warm evenings on the front porch with lightning bugs twinkling and the geraniums in full bloom! Or a cool summer morning with a great cup of coffee and the watering can …can’t you just feel it??  All 40 bolts and jellyrolls are already in the shop!!

There is no place the 3-Sisters love more than Paris in springtime. Leisurely strolls along the Seine and into the many lovely gardens are the inspirations for Printemps. Aptly named after the French word for spring and the sister’s favorite department store in Paris. Printemps is the crème de la crème in a deliciously soft palette of delicate floral prints that appear as though they were fresh picked from Marie Antoinette’s garden at Versailles. Layercakes and jellyrolls available now – bolts should arrive in February.

Drift off on a little Daydream from sketchbook doodles over hills and valleys to Arcadian streams.  This richly saturated collection glows with a fantastical mix of enchanting flowers, hummingbirds, butterflies and more. Venture into its bright glades and blissful patterns to enjoy the reverie before coming full circle to start your day again, renewed with wonder!! Layer cakes and jellyrolls available now – bolts should arrive in February.

Follow the globe, round, smooth, never ending, and expanding in every direction, no matter if you are south, west, east or north. The secret is to find your own destination and your path of beautiful clarity. Dive into the delicate story of sphere and be inspired by its vast expanse of words, three-dimensional balls, arrows, windflowers and multicolored spacey prints. Find your own direction in this world of fabrics for unique modern and fresh quilts. This collection is designed by Zen-Chic for Moda and bolts should arrive in February. Jellyrolls and layer cakes available now.

We have many more collections arriving at the shop from February through April; check back with us for updates of these arrivals.

Neighbor’s Day continues on the second Thursday of each month from 9:00-3:00pm. Everyone is invited and encouraged to participate in giving of their time and talents for various community need projects – Hospice for children, Habitat for Humanity, Veterans Home, and so forth.  Projects are already pre-cut with directions; simple designs to encourage beginner involvement; a great way to learn some new techniques from some seasoned quilters; and it costs nothing but your time.  Bring your machine and basic sewing supplies and join us as we give back to our community.

Breathe that fresh fall air – hmmm

I love Autumn – all the beautiful colors – the chill in the air – just love it!!!  I have been quilting like crazy the last few weeks, trying to get caught up on all the Christmas quilts for my friends.  Really inspires me to see all the different fabrics and patterns everyone has been piecing this summer – I have about 15 new quilts I’d like to start but have promised myself nothing new until after Christmas – (like that’s ever worked before – lol)

We will be getting Moda’s Primitive Gatherings’ newest line “Floral Gatherings” in the shop soon – another 60 bolts of temptation!! Everyone has been asking for this collection and I will try to post here the day it arrives.

Stella came today and I must say I believe we are going to be really good friends.  Oh – yes – Stella is my new LED table lamp that has adjustable brightness as well as 3 different types of lighting – from soft to daylight – great for determining those colors and even better for sewing late at night.  We will be running specials on these during the holidays – normally retails for $220.00 but we will be giving 25% off thru end of year. (Great item to put on those Christmas lists).

Pigeon Forge bus trip is officially full – so if you planned on going and didn’t get to the shop you may want to put your name on a waiting list in case someone has to drop out.

Well – that’s about all the news I have today – just wanted to say hello to everyone and hope to see you soon!!

God Bless

Phyllis
