Open House August 25, 2018 – 9:00-3:00
I have heard the school bells ring, admired my newly canned green beans in the cupboard, and watched a multitude of campers returning home – sure sign that summer is starting to slow down and fall is just around the corner. These are the signs that remind me it is time to have our 26th annual Fall Open House!! I am super excited to welcome some new teachers as well as welcome back our returning teachers.
In order to be fair to our students and teachers, we are asking for class payment to be made at the time of sign-up – with a no refund for cancellations up to two weeks prior to class. This ensures the teacher’s time and efforts will be compensated as well as giving those on the waiting list an opportunity to make arrangements to be there in case of an opening. We appreciate your support of our teachers as well as purchasing your class supplies here at the shop – this is the reason we are able to celebrate 26 years of quilting classes – Thank you!!
Open House is a time to sign up for classes, meet the teachers, see the new fabrics and notions available and of course – a SALE – Fabrics will be $1.00/off regular price; Notions, books and patterns will be 20% off regular price; Jellyrolls and Layer cakes will be $30.00/each; Charm packs will be $1.00/off; Fat Quarters $2.00 each (previously cut fat quarters only)

Life has many changes and we have certainly experienced a few this winter – – – – – –
Let me start by saying – I am a blessed woman!! By God’s grace – and in answer to the many prayers you have lifted up on our behalf – we have welcomed our granddaughter’s birth on January 3rd and she and momma are doing great!! Many of you know there were some serious health issues during Stephanie’s pregnancy and we just wanted to thank everyone for their prayers – and to give God the glory and praise for bringing them through this storm. I look forward to sharing lots of pictures and baby ideas in the near future!!! (and yes – she is THE prettiest, THE smartest, THE best baby ever and I’m sure she will be speaking in full sentences by Month 2 – oops – there comes the momaw out in me – lol)
On a bittersweet note – the other change in my life is saying goodbye to Valerie as she retired from the work force on December 2nd. Valerie is not only family and friend but definitely my right-hand for the last 3 years at the shop – She is currently on a winter vacation on the sunny beaches of Florida – after which she plans on coming back to be a full-time grandma for her two granddaughters – lots of plans of camping, traveling and just enjoying her family. While we are going to miss her infectious laugh around the shop we are ecstatic to see the joy in her eyes as she begins her newest adventure!!! ( I’m sure she will have to have some fabric to make all those American girl doll clothes while teaching Lilly and Emma to sew!!)
We have been experiencing a lot of “facility” problems, – i.e. heating, lighting and bathroom issues for most of the winter; we are thankful to say we have heat – and they are currently trying to get electrician under contract to replace many of our light fixtures. We ask that you bear with us while we are undergoing yet another chapter of our lives. We will resume our full schedule of classes in April after everything gets repaired.
I’m trusting everyone has been busy finishing up some of 2017(and beyond) UFO’s during all these cold days – but now it’s time to start a few new projects.
Clothesline Coasters: Pat Habenschuss is going to lead us in a quick make it /take it class that will allow us to use some of those scraps we have accumulated. Class date: Wednesday – February 7th – 10:00am – ?? Instructor fee – $10.00
Alteration Class: Dee Lieghey has heard your request for this class and has graciously agreed to teach you how to alter your pattern or a garment you already have. Do you have a jacket pattern you started but just wasn’t happy with the fit? This is the class to learn how to finish or alter those “favorite jacket patterns”.
Class dates: Tuesday – February 13th and 20th – 10:00am – 3:00pm – Instructor fee: $30.00

Class dates: Tuesday – February 27th and March 6th – 10:00am – 3:00pm – Fee: $40.00
Double Dresden: Clara Poe will be teaching a technique class on using the double Dresden ruler – this new twist on another old favorite will sure to tempt you to make a few table runners, placemats or perhaps a bed size quilt. Come learn the technique or spend the day to make several blocks.
Class date: Thursday – March 15th – 10:00am – ??? Instructor fee $10.00
Friday UFO days – Each Friday we will be having our open sew – with a different twist – Starting on February 2nd, 9th, 16th, and 23rd at 10:00am – 3:00pm I will be working on T-shirt quilts. Anyone interested in joining can bring their T-shirts, a sharp pair of scissors, rotary cutter and mat. Others can bring in PHD’s and enjoy some fellowship while getting things completed. This is not “a class” but we are always here to help and answer questions. Each month I will be announcing a new project that I will be working on so be sure to check back often on Facebook and website. Again, you don’t have to work on the project I am doing – but are welcome to join me or just come in and observe!!

Hello to all my Quilting Friends!! I trust that everyone is and has been enjoying this beautiful summer.
Here’s a quick run-down of what’s been happening at the shop during the summer –
We enjoyed sharing with many quilters visiting from various states that were participating in the Row by Row Experience. Hope everyone had a chance to visit some shops and pick up some rows for the “On the Go” theme (June 21st – Sept 5.) Our row was a bookcase – we used the idea that a book can take anyone – anywhere they want to go!! And yes we still have plenty available. We also brought in Wilmington’s fabric collection “Literary” and a few patterns that showcased the fabrics. This is a great collection for all those “reading friends or bookworms” in your life.
We have several new Christmas fabrics in the shop allowing us to get an early start on those gifts for our friends and family. A bakery full of jellyrolls and layercakes are available to speed up those project ideas.
The WV Mountain Quilt Quest was in July and showcased the beautiful birds of WV – sketched by Dorothy Post-Swick from Clarksburg, WV and printed by Quilting Treasures Fabric Company – they were going out the door quick. We still have a few panels left but don’t wait to long – once they are gone – we won’t be able to get any more. We have several projects with patterns on display highlighting the panel (or just let your creativity flow!!)
Precuts have been restocked and ready for the fall season. New fabric collections are coming soon – they include: Hushabye Hollow, Frolic, Good Life, Tuppence, Quill, Essentially Yours, Summer Breeze and Lilac Ridge from Moda. Kim Diehl’s newest collection Abundant Blessings has arrived and Dee Begley has scooped up some for her class. Quilting Treasures newest inspirational collection “How Great Thou Art” is at the shop and available now. Stay tuned for more to come!!
Our teacher friends (and Steph) let me know they are back to work – and you know what that means —- it’s time for our teachers to let you know what they want to share with you this fall. We are welcoming a couple new teachers this season – Dee Liegey and Wendy Dodrill and bringing back some of our regular staff – Pat Habenschuss, Cookie Ranson, Clara Poe, Dee Begley and Kay Taylor – even Valerie and I will be leading a few classes as well. Thanks for all their hard work – I know how much time and effort they put into making these classes possible, and it is very much appreciated!!
